Add a Store

Is there a store that you frequently shop at that has a bulk section or sells secondhand or recycled products that you’d like to see added to Boston Zero Waste? Do you own or work in a store that you’d like to see added to BZW? Join the community and become a BZW Contributor! Download this checklist to take notes the next time you go to the store. When you’re ready, fill out this Google Form with store information to be added to BZW.

Things to look for when you go shopping:

  • Bags/purses (secondhand)
  • Bakery (loose bread and baked goods)
  • Baking ingredients
  • Bar soap
  • Beans
  • Candy
  • Cereal
  • Cleaning products
  • Clothing (secondhand)
  • Coffee/tea
  • Coffee/tea accessories
  • Craft supplies (secondhand)
  • Dairy (in glass or compostable packaging)
  • Dried fruit
  • Furniture (secondhand)
  • Grains/Rice
  • Granola
  • Housewares (secondhand)
  • Hygiene items
  • Items made from recycled material
  • Items made from renewable material
  • Kombucha
  • Liquids
  • Nuts/Seeds
  • Olive bar
  • Pasta

  • School supplies (secondhand, recycled or renewable material)
  • Shoes (secondhand)
  • Small appliances (secondhand)

Are there unique opportunities to recycle?

  • Compost

Questions to ask:

  • Is the store open to the public or do you need a membership? Is it only available to students, teachers, etc?
  • Do they allow customers to use their own jars/containers/bags for food products?
  • Is there a scale available to weigh containers?

What will go on the store page?

  • Pictures
  • Brief summary of what store offers, including how welcoming they are of BYO containers
  • List of items sold (from the list above)
  • Map of store location
  • Link back to your personal or business website or Instagram to credit your work
